The Small Web

I been increasingly interested in this idea of "The Small Web". In essence, moving away from social media, ignoring SEO, disregarding large Internet entities and forgoing search engines and going back to using the Internet like how it was used in its early days.

A string of websites, where exploring one might bring you to discover more. Each designed and built for a simple purpose and designed only with regard for the eyes of its creator.

I like this idea, it almost feels like a more natural way to explore the web, using its inherit structure and following threads down different paths to discover part of the Internet you may never have discovered otherwise. That's largely why this site exists, not only to dump thoughts with little regard if others read them but to hopefully be able to share the work of other people.

The Internet as it exists does so for a reason, it is ultimately useful in its current form. Search engines and increasinly LLM interfaces can bring you answers whenever you need and wherever you are. It has never been easier to purchase things and we have such an endless supply of content we could consume it is often more a burden.

And that's why I think this idea of a small web is important. We can't escape technology really but we can make the spaces we spend our time more enjoyable to be a part of.
